Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson said he hopes to see “one
or two more” signings at White Hart Lane amid reports they are looking
to tie up deals for Willian and Erik Lamela.
It is suggested that Lamela could also join, with Roma director of sport Walter Sabatini in London for talks, although the Argentina international’s agent has played down those claims. Fellow Roma star Miralem Pjanic has also been touted as a possible target.
Spurs have already made notable additions this summer with the likes of
Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Nacer Chadli joining, but Sigurdsson feels
further strengthening is necessary.
"We've brought in a few good players," the Iceland international said in the Totternham & Wood Green Journal.
"Hopefully there'll be one or two more to strengthen our squad --
because it's a long season, many competitions, we need a lot of good
players."
It is thought that new signings will be financed by the sale of Gareth
Bale to Real Madrid and, while the speculation over that transfer has
clouded Spurs’ summer, Sigurdsson feels it has been dealt with “quite
well” by the players.
"The club has dealt with it really well as well,” he added. “Us as
players, we can't really do anything. We just keep training. We don't
really think about who is coming in or who is leaving.
"When they come in hopefully they'll fit in but, when you're at a big
club like Tottenham, there is always going to be a few players coming in
and a few players coming out. That's just how it is."
