The match with Scotland takes place three days before the start of the new Premier League season.

Brighton midfielder Liam Bridcutt has a groin problem and is the only absentee from Scotland's original 29-man squad.

Carrick's Manchester United team-mate Ashley Young is the other England player to pull out through injury.

Young, 29, has been suffering with an ankle problem and was forced to miss United's 2-0 win over Wigan in the Community Shield on Sunday.

A Football Association statement said there had been discussions between the England medical staff and their counterparts at Old Trafford and Young had returned to the club.

A host of regulars return for Scotland after missing June's victory over Croatia, including experienced striker Kenny Miller and Celtic captain Brown, who is looking forward to leading his country.
However, skipper Darren Fletcher, along with defender Gary Caldwell and striker Steven Fletcher, remain sidelined for the Scots.

But, with another 13 midfielders at his disposal, Strachan has not added to his larger than usual squad.

"It is going to be a great occasion taking the lads out at Wembley," he said.

"It is going to be huge, it is definitely right up there, even bigger than taking Celtic out for the last-16 of the Champions League.

"It is going to be hard, high-tempo and a great occasion for the fans as well and I'm sure the Tartan Army will be there in their thousands.

"I think there is a lot more pressure on them to beat us.

"We are the underdogs. But we have got great players and match winners as well, so we are all looking forward to it."
