Starting
this note on this simple premise, I hope I will not be guilty of any fallacy.
Federal government claims
she is not poor;
ASUU’s chief lack is money
for intellectual development;
Federal government denies
massive implementation;
ASUU goes on strike;
The conclusion is not as harmful
as the effects. It is simply illogical and irresponsible on the part of federal
government if ASUU strike continues owing to these premises.
Since
the wake of July 2013 till now, the dailies have been reading different
headlines about ASUU strike. ASUU strike is becoming a thing of necessity to an
average Nigerian student, irrespective of educational level. The current
headlines now read: ASUU strike becoming political – Suswam; ASUU warns Suswam
over utterances; ASUU denies Suswam’s linking of strike to politics… how long
shall we continue to read through the dailies in search of anomalies between
ASUU and federal government? Must every ASUU chairman’s regime undergo strike?
The
President as a technocrat and as an intellectual product should endeavour to
see these whole issues in a different light. The Minister for Education; the Chairman
on Universities Needs Assessment and Implementation Committee; Information Minister;
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Finance Minister have all
played a tune that is though audible, yet meaningfully inaudible in this matter
. Could it be the case of he who pays the pipers dictates the tunes or a
travesty of the presidency and an individualistic view of their representaion,
or something else? Is there anything hideous in the way the five public office
holder of high portfolio have seen this strike issue, without any of them
having a slim different view? That they even contradicted each other on the
left.
The
Chairman on Universities Needs Assessment and Implementation Committee;
Information Minister; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and
Finance Minister have all played a politicking role in juxtaposition with the
millions of students striving through ill-developed schools.
I suggest
the eradication of these third parties. Mr. President Sir, on the basis of your
intellectuality, technocracy, a good father and a formal University don, who knows
the academic settings better than all these third parties, to please do attend
to the needs of ASUU.
We want to
hear your fatherly response as we anticipate a one stop solution to the needs
of ASUU. Hear the voice of millions stranded Nigerian students. Kindly wade in
your magic wand to meet the needs and bring peace aboard.
