Art entrepreneur, Ejiro Onbrakpeya, who is also a son of renowned artist, Prof. Bruce Onabrakpeya, joined his colleagues from other sectors on Tuesday, to prepare the ground for the Trade Expo Indonesia, holding in Jakarta, Indonesia in October. Although Onabrakpeya does not paint or carve like his father, he is into art business and he is a trustee of the Bruce Onabrakpeya Foundation. Besides, he is planning an art and culture exchange programme between the Asian country and Nigeria. At a press conference held at the Indonesia embassy in Lagos, Ejiro said although he went to Indonesia for another programme, a friend had advised him to see the fair, which was going on then. "When I was in Jakarta, the first thing I observed was that the people were warm and accommodating. But I also found out that we have a lot of similarity with Indonesians. Our foods are similar, though they eat a lot of fish." Adding that Indonesia has the biggest economy in Asia, he said there were many products at the fair, the quality of which, he added, was generally good. "One thing I also discovered is that Indonesians have perfected the art of the cottage industry. It was part of what inspired me to design a programme for cultural exchange. This year, I will be at the fair again to continue the networking for the project," Ejiro said. In his remarks, the director, Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre at the embassy, Mr. Ponta Tobing, noted that the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre is an annual business to business export business exhibition organised by the country's Ministry of Trade cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board to encourage business and trading activities in a variety of products and services. It also seeks to expand business networks and exchange the unexploited and untapped business potentials that exist in Indonesia. Noting that Indonesia has a good business relation with Nigeria, with 12 companies already in operation, Tobing said the expo is also aimed at promoting quality Indonesia-made products and services to the global market. Officials of three other organistions that have been part of the trade fair also spoke positively about the opportunities it offers.
