At least one man has been killed and three policemen were wounded after several shots were fired at a cafe in the Danish capital, where a meeting on freedom of speech was being held, police said.
Danish police said late on Saturday that just one gunman was involved in the attack in Copenhagen. They released a photo of the suspect in a dark jacket and a maroon hat carrying a black bag. Police initially said there were two gunmen.
The gunman, who remains on the run, reportedly used automatic weapons in carrying out the raid.
As of late Saturday, a getaway car has been recovered, police said.
The event was organised by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has faced numerous threats for caricaturing the Prophet Muhammad in 2007. Police confirmed that he was the target of the attack.
The French ambassador to Denmark Francois Zimeray also attended the event at Krudttoenden cafe in the capital city. He was not injured.
